 Aims and objectives 

To provide the legal practitioner with
an overview of the current position of legal professional privilege and the way in which common law rules may be replaced by uniform evidence legislation in this area. 

Learning outcomes

  • To be familiar with the legislative reform taking place in relation to client legal privilege.
  • To understand the scope of privilege and the doctrine of waiver of privilege, as applied by Australian courts.
  • To be able to apply this understanding to his or her own legal practice and dealings with clients, particularly in relation to compulsory disclosure processes.
